March 2008

Spring is almost here!   To our customers out there that are “hardy souls” willing to brave winter’s cold and snow for year round outdoor recreation, we thank you for your continued support and business throughout the winter.  For the rest of us, with temperatures expected to reach almost 60 degrees in the next day or so, it just now time to think outdoors again.

We’ve spent the last 2 months gearing up the store with a number of new products.  After a number of requests, we will once again be stocking the original Sigg bottles.  Manufactured in Switzerland, these bottles are made of pure aluminum with a micro-thin enamel liner, making them light weight, highly durable, reusable, and 100% recyclable should you ever need to dispose of them.

Keeping with a lightweight theme for a moment, we have also expanded our stock of Vargo titanium products to include 4 styles of light-weight stoves, as well as, kettles, cups, and utensils.  We continue to carry the SteriPen water purification system that is compact, extremely reliable, and uses UV light to sterilize drinking water.  We’ve also added the EZ Towel to the many items we have available.  The EZ Towel is compact, easy to carry and use, and 100% biodegradable.

We’ve added the Hiker, Maverick and Scarlet to our Mountainsmith line of packs and bags.  The Hiker, at 1586 cubic inch, can be used as a day or overnight pack and is manufactured with fabric made from recycled plastic bottles.  The Maverick is available in 2 torso fit ranges, with the cubic inch capacity ranging from 3630 on the regular torso, to 3930 on the large torso pack.  The Scarlet is a nice addition to our women’s specific packs.  The shoulder straps and waist belts are specifically designed to give women a better fit and all around comfort on this 3082 cubic inch pack.

These are just a few of our new products for the season.  With any luck, we should have the “New Products” section of our web site created and updated within two weeks.  This will give everyone a really simple way to keep up the new items we bring into the store.  In the meantime, we will continue to keep you updated via our newsletter on the new products and new things going on at the store.

Before closing, we would like to thank all the people that were able to attend our lightweight backpacking seminar with Brian Vargo back on March 6th.  Brian demonstrated his titanium alcohol stoves and showed us his line of lightweight camping gear.  It was a fun and informative evening for all. It really motivated us all to “get out there!”

January 2008

It's finally here!  The on-line newsletter!

We've been somewhat neglect in updating our webpage and sending out monthly email newsletters for quite some time now.  That's about to change!  Lyon Camping and Supply now has DSL.  This is an exciting change for us at the store.  From a personal perspective, browsing the internet is a lot more fun, but it also means that we will be able to update and maintain our web site in a timely fashion, respond to email requests and questions more quickly, and ultimately keep you, our customers, better updated on new products, changes, and general "goings on" at the store.

For starters, our on-line Mini-Sale Center has been updated.  There will be additional products added to this page, weekly - and or daily - as we continue with our somewhat daunting January task of checking inventory.

We have a seminar planned for March 6, 2008 with Bryan Vargo on lightweight backpacking.  Additional information is available on the News and Events section of our web site.  Look for seminar agenda updates begin the week of March 21st.

As we continue to update our web page over the next couple of weeks, look for changes to News and Events more frequently.  Some of the upcoming additions of interest will be our "New Items" page, keeping you informed on new products lines we are able to offer, and our "Made in the USA" page that will feature only those products we carry that are manufactured here in the USA.   We have some other additions to our Site, and News in the planning stage, and we will update folks as things move along.

Our thanks and appreciation,

Betzi and Cindy
